TV Fool has fantastic online tools for planning your OTA HDTV antenna installation. To get started try the TV signal locator.
This tool will take your address and tell you exactly which direction to point your antenna to pickup signals. In addition it will also tell you:
- Which signals are in the VHF band which is NOT supported well by most of the “HD” antennas on the market today. (note: there is no such thing as an “HD” antenna; antennas can be UHF or VHF end of story)
- The approximate strength of the broadcast signals at your house
- Information can be found for both known and planned tv transmitters. By looking at the planned transmitter you can see how many more stations should be coming OTA soon.
The tool can be found here:

It’s as simple as entering your address and hitting the “Find Local Channels” button.
I’ve attached the report for my house. This report shows current stations only.
